CJM Ambala Rules

The Convent of Jesus and Mary (CJM), Ambala, has a comprehensive set of rules and regulations to maintain a disciplined and respectful environment. Students are expected to attend school regularly, arrive punctually, and participate fully in all scheduled classes and activities. Wearing the correct uniform and adhering to grooming standards are mandatory, ensuring students present themselves in a neat and tidy manner. Respectful behavior is required at all times, promoting a safe space where bullying, harassment, and disruptive conduct are strictly prohibited. Academic integrity is fundamental, with honesty expected in all assignments, tests, and assessments. Technology use is regulated, with devices like mobile phones generally restricted to support a focused learning atmosphere.


    For Classes I to V :

  • The pupil’s daily progress in oral and written work will be assessed and recorded.
  • For Classes VI to X :

  • Regular examination schedules will be intimated from time to time.
  • Tests will be held in all subjects for all classes.
  • Evaluation will be based on student’s continuous and comprehensive performance during the year.
  • Grade system of evaluation will be followed in both scholastic and co-scholastic areas.
  • No Exams will be conducted for absentees.
  • Students found resorting to unfair means during any test will be marked zero in that subject. They will also not be eligible for any academic award or school appointments. Serious action could be taken against repeated offenders.
  • A student may be given exemption from appearing in an examination in case of serious illness subject to production of a Medical Certificate in effect from a physician of competence. However such Medical Certificate should be submitted to the Principal prior to the commencement of the Examination.
  • Parents are strongly advised not to send children to school if they are suffering from stomach disorders, fever or any infectious disease even if the class is having a test/examination. However, serious view will be taken against those students who habitually absent themselves from class tests on one or the other pretext.
  • The Pre-Board Examination is compulsory for all students of Class XII which will be conducted on the Board pattern. Every student must attend this examination and get a pass percentage in all subjects, should she be declared fit for the Board Examination.
  • From the year 2011 onwards students of Class X will appear for their Class X Exams conducted by the school, based on CBSE syllabus and will get the certificates issued by the CBSE Board.
  • Note : Admissions to Class XI Admissions to Plus two classes of different streams will be starting immediately after the declaration of the results of Class X Examination. All such admissions shall be subject to merit, based on an Entrance Test and Viva Voce during which students will be assessed and suitably advised to opt for different streams of their choice subject to suitability and availability of vacancy. Girls seeking admission from other Schools should submit qualificatory documents to the satisfaction of the School along with the Application to be eligible for appearance in the Entrance Test, subject to availability of vacancy.


    Absence:

  • Every student is expected to be present in the class on all days throughout the year. However in case of reasons of serious in nature, leave of absence could be granted subject to submission of prior written application by parents or guardians to the Principal.
  • Appointments with doctors, dentists etc. must not be arranged during school hours.
  • It is compulsory for a student who is absent for a day, for untoward reasons, to bring a leave note addressed to the Principal and signed by the student’s parent/guardian.
  • In case of absence due to long illness/contagious disease etc., the Principal should be informed in advance. While rejoining it is compulsory to submit a medical fitness certificate issued by a physician of competence along with the joining letter.
  • Children who are suffering from Measles, Chicken Pox and other infectious diseases should not be sent to school until the infective period is over.
  • Measles - 11 days from the day of onset of cold & fever.
  • Chicken Pox - 2 weeks after rash appears and till the crust has completely fallen off. This is a preventive measure to protect your child and the spread of the disease in the school. Serious action will be taken if children with Fever, Chicken Pox or other contagious diseases are sent to school.

    House System:

  • To work for effective management and discipline and to foster esprit de corps and deep love for the alma mater, the school has devised a House System whereby the students, divided into the four Houses distinguished by names which signify their ideals, work in a spirit of excellence set for them.
  • The four Houses are :

    Wisdom Green Light in Darkness
    Peace Yellow Pray and Work
  • Every House is headed by a Captain and Vice- Captain each who in turn take their inspiration and guidance from their respective House Mistresses. The House Mistresses, Captains and Vice-Captains form an integral part of the Student Council.

    School Discipline

    "Discipline is the continual exercise of the will, enlightened by the intellect, so that it may act easily and habitually according to the right order and help to attain self-mastery".

  • Strict disciplinary action will be taken against students who leave the school premises during working hours without permission of the Principal.
  • Students who stay away from P.T., Art Education (visual and performing), Library and Work Experience classes will be dealt with severely.
  • The Principal reserves unto herself the right to dismiss a student without any prior notice in respect of those whose attendance is irregular, who doesn’t pay her fees, who is habitually absent, lazy, dishonest or disobedient, who fails to make satisfactory progress in studies, whose conduct or behaviour is in any way injuries or detrimental to the discipline or reputation of the School, who indulges in immorality, insubordination or contempt of authorities or whose sickness could be injurious or contagious to the health or wellbeing of other students.
  • Notwithstanding anything contained in the Prospectus, the Principal may at her sole discretion direct any parent or guardian to withdraw his/her ward out of the School without assigning any reason thereof.

    Punctuality

    "All pupils are expected to be in the school by 7.20 a.m. on all working days. The school gates will be closed by 7.25 a.m. Any student coming late will be penalized.".

  • No student may leave her class in between teaching periods.
  • The Principal may penalize a child who is found habitually out of the Classes.
  • Attendance is compulsory and all leave applications should be addressed to the Principal.
  • No child will be sent home even if some urgent need arises otherwise than through an escort duly authorised by the parents or guardian together with an ID proof.

    Order & Silence

  • Special care must be taken by teachers and pupils to maintain an atmosphere of silence and must concentrate in their work seriously during class hours.
  • Order and discipline must be the hall-mark of the school.
  • Cleanliness, a pre-requisite of discipline, is therefore a must. Class rooms, corridors and the compound reflect the tone of the school which aims at bringing up young girls to mature adulthood.
  • The school expects every girl to contribute to the excellence of standards.No student is permitted to enter the Staff Room.
  • All students are expected to address their teachers and all members of the School with respect and politeness.
  • The class will be dismissed only after the parting prayer, after which a last double bell will be sounded for dispersal.
  • No Collection for any purpose whatsoever may be made in the school without the permission of the Principal. Parents are earnestly requested not to give any personal gifts to staff members.
  • The school strictly prohibits students from buying snacks from hawkers outside the gate.
  • It is necessary that all students should attend school in their full uniform. Those who are not in their complete uniform will not be given permission to enter the class.
  • The students are not permitted to celebrate birthdays or any other function during school hours.

    Courtesy

  • The students shall always greet their teachers, elders and friends in a pleasant and polite tone wherever they may meet them in the school or outside.
  • Running and shouting inside the school building is unbecoming of and forbidden.
  • They shall be polite in speaking to one another avoiding the use of slang, loud talk and common expressions, that ill-befit the young.
  • They shall strive to be obedient to their parents and teachers, giving them always the respect and affection that is their due and accept their guidance and correction with gratitude.
  • All students must realise that the School is judged by their good conduct and politeness.
  • All students are responsible to the School Authorities for their conduct not only in the School but also for their general behaviour outside also.

    Library Rules

  • Only note books, paper and pencil or pen may be brought inside the library along with library books due for return.
  • Students may borrow one book at a time on their library cards. Students of Classes IX to XII may borrow two books each at a time. Cards are not transferable. Any one found lending her card to others may have it cancelled.
  • Books are issued for a week at a time. They must be returned on the due date stamped on the date sheet. Only books for which there is no immediate demand will be reissued.
  • Students are responsible for books borrowed on their cards. Any damage to the books should be pointed out at the time of borrowing and the signature of the librarian obtained. Loss of books or any damage to them noticed at the time of return, will have to be made good by the students.
  • Periodicals, journals, publications, dictionaries, guides and other costly reference books etc. shall not be lent out.
  • Books are issued and returned only during library periods. A fine of Rs. 10.00 per week is charged for overdue books.
  • If a book is lost, it will have to be replaced with a new one or the market price of the same will have to be paid. There will be a penalty for scribbling in the book.
  • Students should return their library cards at the end of the academic year. Students of Classes X and XII should return their books before going on study leave for the Board Examinations.
  • Students are welcome to use the Library for reference work during school hours if they come with written permission from the Principal/Subject Teacher/ Class Teacher.
  • Library books, Magazines & Furniture are the property of the school and must not be marked, damaged or taken out of the library without permission.
  • Complete silence should be maintained inside and in the vicinity of the library.
  • The School expects the students to make use of the Library facility to the best conducive manner for the betterment of their career.
